IMPORTANT INFORMATION



Foreign citizens seeking any kind of employment in the Czech Republic who are nationals of:

  1. countries that are members of the European Union can be employed on the same conditions as Czech nationals (e.g. do not need a work permit or a special visa)

  2. countries that are not members of the European Union must gain:
    1. a WORK PERMIT
    2. a VISA FOR A STAY OVER 90 DAYS (Long – Term Visa)

These documents must be obtained in advance, before arrival in the Czech Republic.


WORK PERMIT

The work permit will be arranged for by the school at its local Employment Office in the Czech Republic.
For this purpose the school will need permission to act on your behalf, a verified statement of authorization confirmed by the respective official body.
In order to arrange for the work permit the school will also need a photocopy of your passport (the page with your photo, personal data and number of the passport) and a verified copy of your diploma and teacher’s qualification or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate, if you have one. In some cases also the Apostille (e.g. USA) or legalization and superlegalization (Canada) of your diploma may be requested.

As soon as the work permit is issued, the school will send it to you together with an official confirmation of the arranged for accommodations in the Czech Republic. You must present the work permit and the official confirmation of the arranged for accommodations (together with other documents listed in the below mentioned Act on Residence of Aliens in the Territory of the Czech Republic) when applying for a Visa for a stay over 90 days at a Czech Embassy.

Please note:
The work permit is valid only for the teaching position at the school for which it was issued. If teachers have more than one teaching position with different employers (schools) they must have a work permit for each individual job. The work permit is issued for one year. An extension must be applied for at the local Employment Office at least 6 weeks before the date of its expiration.


VISA FOR A STAY OVER 90 DAYS (Long – Term Visa)

This visa is granted according to the Act  on Residence of Aliens in the Territory of the Czech Republic.

Exact reading of the Act is available in English on the web site of the Czech Ministry of Interior at http://www.mvcr.cz/rady/cizinci/index.html#zakon (please see particularly Part 4, Sections 30-34).
According to this Act a Visa for a Stay over 90 Days can be applied for ONLY at an Embassy of the Czech Republic (not in the Territory of the Czech Republic).

Please contact the Czech Embassy in your country for exact details as soon as possible to obtain the Visa in time. The usual period of time necessary for processing an application is 120 days.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED TO BE SENT TO THE RESPECTIVE SCHOOL
In order that the school can arrange for your work permit it will need the following:

  1. permission to act on your behalf in arranging for a work permit, a verified statement of authorization confirmed by the respective official body;
  2. photocopy of your passport (the page with your photo, personal data and number of the passport);
  3. diploma, a verified copy (in some cases also the Apostille (e.g. USA) or legalization and supelegalization (Canada) of your diploma may be requested;
  4. certificate of teacher’s qualification or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Certificate, if you have one, verified copies.


ESSENTIAL DOCUMENTS TO BRING TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC:

(all candidates for a teaching post in the Czech Republic)

  1. diploma - original or a verified copy (in some cases also the Apostille (e.g. USA) or legalization and superlegalization (e.g. Canada) of your diploma may be required);
  2. teacher certification (if you have one) - original or a verified copy;
  3. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate (if you have one) - original or a verified copy;
  4. birth certificate – original or a verified copy and a document stating the names and dates of birth of your parents (if this information is not included in your birth certificate) – original or a verified copy.
